Warner Bros. Pictures has released the first eight minutes of its animated fantasy feature “The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim” ahead of its release next week.
Set 183 years before the events of Peter Jackson’s “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy, the film tells the fate of the House of Helm Hammerhand, the legendary King of Rohan.
A sudden attack by Wulf, a clever and ruthless Dunlending lord seeking vengeance for the death of his father, forces Helm and his people to make a daring last stand in the ancient stronghold of the Hornburg – a mighty fortress that will later come to be known as Helm’s Deep.
Finding herself in an increasingly desperate situation, Héra, the daughter of Helm, must summon the will to lead the resistance against a deadly enemy intent on their total destruction.
The voice cast of the film includes Brian Cox as Helm Hammerhand, Gaia Wise as Héra, Luke Pasqualino as Wulf, and Miranda Otto as Éowyn along with Lorraine Ashbourne, Benjamin Wainwright, Yazdan Qafouri, Laurence Ubong Williams, Michael Wildman, Shaun Dooley, Jude Akuwudike, Bilal Hasna, and Janine Duvitski.
Kenji Kamiyama directs the film from a script by Jeffrey Addiss, Will Matthews, Phoebe Gittins, and Arty Papageorgiou and based on a story by Addiss, Matthews, and Philippa Boyens.
“The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim” opens in cinemas December 13th.
