Sometimes, while surfing the waves of social media, you come across something that is so cool you simply have to share it. In this case, it was the Gala Venue System in the B32 Theatre in São Paulo, Brazil. It really is quite spectacular. Check it out.
Opened in 2020, this space is in the Birman 32 Tower on Faria Lima Avenue. It was designed by Pei Architects in partnership with Eiji Hayakawa Architects. The challenge was a theater space in a tower block that had to cater for theatrical performances, cinema, live events, and even conferences. As you can see, their answer was fairly spectacular.
This got me thinking…
“Seats, sticky floors, cup holder… how hard can it be?”
I have been to many movie theaters all over the world. Some really stick in the mind. One was a special screening of Return Of The Jedi in the Odeon, Marble Arch, London complete with Storm Troopers, Ewoks, and Darth Vader when I was 9 years old. At the time, pre-IMAX, it was one of the largest screen in the world and to my young eyes it was mind-blowing.
I had never seen a movie theater like it, coming as I had from the provinces via a detour to the grimey horrors of New York in the early 80s.
What about you? Leaving aside the movie you saw…
What is the best movie theater you have ever been in, and why?
Get your debating pants on. No, not the ones with the elasticated waistband – they are your eating pants.
