Filmmaker Christopher Nolan is quickly assembling a strong cast for his next film, and is bringing one of his key “Oppenheimer” alum with him in the form of Matt Damon.
Now, scooper Daniel Richtman (via CBM) says Nolan still has one more major role to fill in the new movie and is keen to work with Robert Downey Jr. again after his Oscar-winning turn in “Oppenheimer”.
Unfortunately though, Downey Jr.’s filming commitments to the role of Dr. Doom in “Avengers: Doomsday” may prevent him from joining the production. Both films will have overlapping schedules and Downey is “very much the main character in Avengers: Doomsday like Thanos was in Infinity War”.
Richtman adds that Downey’s character is expected to appear in “almost every scene” whereas the various hero characters will be more supporting players. Which actors are returning for ‘Doomsday’ beyond Downey Jr. isn’t clear yet.
Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway and Robert Pattinson make up the core leads of Nolan’s new film, with Charlize Theron, Lupita Nyong’o and Zendaya in supporting roles. Nolan’s film has set a release date of July 17th 2026 – arriving two months after “Avengers: Doomsday” opens May 1st 2026.
The report comes as scooper MyTimeToShineH is claiming Marvel Studios has begun actively developing a “Hulk vs. Wolverine” movie but no further details are available.
