Getting the first trailer for James Gunn’s “Superman” right is a top priority over at Warner Bros. Pictures, so much so a new online post that has gained traction has claimed the studio sent back early versions of it that weren’t up to Kryptonian standard.

Getting a “Superman” trailer right is a tricky thing, nonetheless both Bryan Singer’s “Superman Returns” and Zack Snyder’s “Man of Steel” managed to deliver as close to ‘perfect’ a trailer as you can get – trailers that ended up being much better than the resulting films (both trailers are included below).

Singer did it with his first teaser, Snyder with his final trailer, and now Gunn is under pressure to deliver and hopefully land it with his first time at bat. A new posting from writer and filmmaker Dan Marcus today who claimed on X:

“From everything I’ve heard, there is enormous pressure internally from inside Warner Bros. for the trailer to be received well. Apparently the studio asked for multiple different cuts of the trailer to find the best version. To clarify, since every trailer necessitates multiple cuts, apparently the editor cutting the trailer presented a fairly finalized version to the studio weeks ago. The studio wasn’t happy and said ‘Make it better’.”

He goes on to say the studio’s marketing department was recently gutted and adds that he “wouldn’t want to be a part of” that group right now. That said, we know Gunn himself has been working on the trailer, and has shown it to people like actor Frank Grillo, so it’s not clear who is the ‘editor’ he’s referring to in this situation.

Gunn of course is also famously quite quick to debunk rumors and Marcus adds: “if Gunn responded and debunked all of this I certainly wouldn’t mind!”. As of writing, Gunn hasn’t done so yet. It’s expected the trailer will be released early next month, but there’s been conflicting reports about a specific date.

“Superman” is still in the midst of post-production and is on track for release on July 11th 2025.
