Barry Keoghan will portray Ringo Starr in Sam Mendes’ new Beatles movies, at least that’s according to Starr himself.

The “Saltburn” and “Banshees of Inisherin” star’s name was one of several rumored months ago for the project, but hadn’t been confirmed.

Entertainment Tonight asked Starr about his reaction to Keoghan’s rumored casting, to which he responded: “I think it’s great. I believe he’s somewhere taking drum lessons, and I hope not too many.”

Mendes’ ambitious plan is to direct four biopics, each dedicated to a band member – John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Starr.

All of the films will be released separately in theaters by Sony Pictures. No deals have been announced as yet, but “Gladiator II” actors Paul Mescal and Joseph Quinn have both been rumored for the project.

The project has received the go-ahead from the Beatles’ label Apple Corps Limited. Keoghan was most recently in Andrea Arnold’s “Bird” and will be seen in the upcoming “Peaky Blinders” film for Netflix.
