Ahead of the arrival of the “Moana” sequel, the musical “Wicked” remained strong and on top of the U.S. box-office with a reported $15.8 million box-office haul.
That marks the best Monday haul ever in November for a film, beating out “Frozen II” ($12.7M), “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” ($12.3M), “Skyfall” ($11.3M) and “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” ($11.1M).
After just four days, the film’s domestic total sits at $128.1 million, the film’s three day opening ended up being $112.5 million – by far the best haul for a Broadway musical turned film.
The film made headlines again earlier today when it was officially confirmed by the studio that the film’s stars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande were paid the same salary for their work on the film.
Ridley Scott’s “Gladiator II” did $5.5 million on Monday, bringing its four day take up to $60.6 million domestically.
“Moana 2” previews are now underway ahead of what’s expected to be a $135 million Thanksgiving five-day opening. The original “Moana” grossed $2.6 million in Tuesday night previews before ahead of its Thanksgiving five-day gross of $82 million.
