Courtney B. Vance will take over the role of Zeus from the late Lance Reddick in the second season of “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” for the Disney+ service.
“Bosch” and “John Wick” star Reddick died at age 60 shortly after production wrapped on the first season. The likes of Keith David and Tim Russ have taken over voice roles that Reddick had in game franchises “Destiny” and “Horizon” respectively, Vance however will lend more than just his voice.
In the first season his character accused Percy (Walker Scobell) of stealing his master lightning bolt, which sent Percy and his friends Annabeth (Leah Sava Jeffries) and Grover (Aryan Simhadri) on a nationwide quest to find it and stop a war between the gods.
His demigod daughter Thalia Grace (Tamara Smart) plays a key role int he second season. Vance is best known for roles in films like “The Hunt for Red October” and shows like “The People vs. OJ Simpson: American Crime Story” and “Lovecraft Country”.
The second season of “Percy Jackson” is based on Rick Riordan’s novel “The Sea of Monsters”. Percy returns to Camp Half-Blood one year later to find his world turned upside down.
His friendship with Annabeth is changing, he learns he has a cyclops for a brother, Grover has gone missing and camp is under siege from the forces of Kronos. Percy’s journey to set things right will take him off the map and into the deadly Sea of Monsters, where a secret fate awaits the son of Poseidon.
Other new second season cast includes Andra Day as Athena, Daniel Diemer as Tyson and Timothy Simons as Tantalus. Filming on the new run is currently underway ahead of a 2025 airing.
