Though his name has been floated for a number of projects, including new Bourne and Bond films, filmmaker Edward Berger looks to be going his own way with a new original film.

Deadline says there’s expected to be highly competitive bidding for the “hot time travel package” from the “All Quiet on the Western Front” and “Conclave” director titled “The Barrier”.

Adding to the heat is that the sci-fi film will star “Dune” and “Elvis” alum Austin Butler and is being described as “Interstellar meets Top Gun”.

The film is based on a short story by MacMillan Hedges but plot details are under wraps. Hedges made the Black List twice with scripts “Cosmic Sunday” and “The Searchers”.

Berger will direct from a script by Hedges and produce alongside the scribe. Butler stars and executive produce.

Berger is currently in post-production on gambling drama “The Ballad of a Small Player” starring Colin Farrell and Tilda Swinton.

Butler is currently shooting Darren Aronofsky’s “Caught Stealing” and will be seen in Ari Aster’s “Eddington” at A24.
