Following their successful collaboration on this year’s “Queer,” Deadline reports that actor Daniel Craig and Oscar nominated filmmaker Luca Guadagnino are re-teaming for a “Sgt. Rock” film at James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Studios.
No deals are set yet between the actor, director and the company, but the project is reportedly expected to take priority over Guadagnino’s planned “American Psycho” reboot and so will be the helmer’s next directorial effort.
Guadagnino has been linked to a DC project for months and was linked to this one specifically back in September, but Craig’s involvement is new. Guadagnino’s new go-to screenwriter Justin Kuritzkes (“Challengers,” “Queer”) is penning the script which is said to be in “good shape”.
The comics follow Sgt. Franklin Rock, an infantry non-commissioned officer who managed to participate in every major action in the European part of World War II. He’s an incredibly skilled fighter and sniper and has both endurance and a borderline sixth sense when it comes to danger. Otherwise, he’s a regular human.
The project would join the other films on Gunn and Safran’s DC Universe slate which commences with Gunn’s own “Superman” film opening in July next year and will be followed by the “Supergirl” film in 2026.
Guadagnino’s “Queer” opens in limited release next week. He’s currently in post-production on the Julia Roberts-led “After the Hunt”.
