HBO’s spin-off series “Dune: Prophecy” had a decent start on Sunday night according to a new report at Deadline.
The premiere episode apparently clocked up 1.2 million cross-platform U.S. viewers on Sunday in Live+Same Day, followed by another 75% of that on Monday, bringing its total to 2.1 million viewers after just over a day.
To put that in comparison, “The Penguin” launched to 1.4 million cross-platform U.S. viewers in Live+Same Day – that series continued to grow its same-day audience right up to the finale. Ultimately the premiere has been watched by 18 million U.S. viewers so far in the two months since launch.
It’s expected “Dune: Prophecy” will see its audience grow too as same-day viewership has become far less important or indicative of success in the streaming era.
The series takes place ten millennia before the characters in Denis Villeneuve’s films and follows two Harkonnen sisters as they combat forces that threaten the future of humankind – and establish the fabled sect that will become known as the Bene Gesserit.
The series runs for six episodes with the finale set to air on December 22nd.
