If another “Ghostbusters” film gets made, don’t expect it to be the nostalgia bait of the last two according to one of the key talents of the franchise – Dan Aykroyd.
Aykroyd co-wrote and starred in the original 1984 film, its sequel, and then the more recent 2021 film “Ghostbusters: Afterlife” and “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire” earlier this year.
Out promoting his recently returned History Channel Show “The UnBelievable with Dan Aykroyd,” he spoke with The New York Post and indicates his time with the “Ghostbusters” franchise is over when asked if he or Bill Murray would return for the next film:
“I don’t see that coming. I don’t see where they would need us to carry it on. They’ve got a whole new cast, and they’ve got whole new ideas. I think probably they’re going to move on to advancing it beyond the originals, which they should.”
The newer movies primarily focused on new cast members including Paul Rudd, Carrie Coon, and Finn Wolfhard. Reviews for the new films have been mediocre and box-office wise both earned around $200 million each.
So far Sony has given no indications it’s pursuing a third film in the series.
