A while back came the news that Disney was planning a live-action remake of its 1997 animated feature “Hercules” with British filmmaker Guy Ritchie set to helm.

Ritchie had success with his live-action adaptation of “Aladdin” for the studio, and here was reportedly set to team with “Avengers: Endgame” directors Joe and Anthony Russo who would produce.

However, there’s been little reporting since beyond some casting rumors like Taron Egerton as Hercules and Ariana Grande as Meg, to a more recent one that Ritchie had allegedly exited the project.

Recently though, scooper DanielRPK (via Toonado) reported that the project has undergone a creative overhaul.

As a result, the film will now take the “Maleficent” route and play out from the perspective of the villainous Hades. The title may shift as well to “Hades”.

This matches with a 2022 interview with the Russos which suggested they had no plans for the live-action remake to be a loyal recreation of the original. No word on a potential production start as yet.
