By DC Studios chief James Gunn has finally cleared up what is, and what isn’t, canon in regards to Max’s “Peacemaker” series.
The show’s first season seemingly took place in the now-defunct DCEU whereas the second season unfolds in Gunn’s new DC Universe that begins with the animated “Creature Commandos” series and next year’s “Superman” film.
Out promoting “Creature Commandos,” he tells IGN that nothing is definitely canon “unless you see it in Creature Commandos” or in anything released after that in the DCU.
Gunn explains: “Now in Creature Commandos, you’ll hear them talk about things that happened in [The] Suicide Squad or Peacemaker. Well then, those things automatically become canon.”
He then goes on to explain with “Peacemaker,” the entire first season is effectively canon with one notable exception – the Justice League cameo in the first season finale.
Gunn says: “The truth is almost all of Peacemaker is canon with the exception of Justice League… which we will kind of deal with in the next season of Peacemaker.”
How exactly that scene will be explained is something being held closer until the show’s airing which is currently slated for an August 2025 debut.
“Creature Commandos” will launch the new DCU when it debuts on Max on December 5th this year.
