Comedian Conan O’Brien is set to host the 97th Oscars telecast, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announcing the selection on Friday morning.

O’Brien has worked in television for decades, mostly in a hosting capacity, and recently transitioned to presiding over a podcasting empire under the banner of Team Coco.

He’s garnered 31 Emmy nominations and five wins in his time along with serving as a writer on “The Simpsons” and “Saturday Night Live”.

Academy CEO Bill Kramer and president Janet Yang said in a statement:

“We are thrilled and honored to have the incomparable Conan O’Brien host the Oscars this year. He is the perfect person to help lead our global celebration of film with his brilliant humor, his love of movies and his live TV expertise. His remarkable ability to connect with audiences will bring viewers together to do what the Oscars do best – honor the spectacular films and filmmakers of this year.”

Jimmy Kimmel, who hosted three times so far, reportedly declined an invitation to return. Similarly John Mulaney is also said to have passed on the opportunity.

The event will take place at the Dolby Theatre at 4pm US-PT on Sunday, March 2nd 2025. The ceremony is televised live on ABC in more than 200 territories around the world.
