This week’s debate is about TV shows. Since there isn’t much new that’s worth watching these days, I recently started binge-watching older stuff. One of them was a BBC sitcom from the 1980s called Hi-De-Hi. A nice and simple comedy set in a holiday camp in the 1950s.

The staff were all on the fiddle, trying to scam the guests and the characters were all good fun. There was one Yellow Coat, one of the entertainment staff, that was gorgeous! Susan Beagly she was called, and I had quite the crush on her.

There were nine seasons in total. I’m on about number seven at the moment and the quality has really slipped. In the first season, the show just established itself and introduced you to all the characters. Seasons three to about five are gold. Then, around season six, it started to slip.

This got me thinking about other TV shows where they drop in quality as time goes on and sparked a debate. The US Office for example, really slides toward about season six. When Michael Scott leaves, it just hits rock bottom.

This brings me to this week’s debate:

What shows have kept their quality, from season one to the end?

Are there any shows that kept their quality all the way through? I think of things like Fawlty Towers, OK, there were only two seasons, with a total of twelve episodes, but each one of them is classic.

Other shows start well and have a great middle, but then tail off, like The Simpsons for example. Who rewatched Game of Thrones after that awful last season? As a follow-up debate question:

What TV shows deteriorated the worst over time?

Let the discussion start and maybe serve as a warning to stay away from certain shows. Well, watch them until you get to season six.
