The PlayStation 5 Pro is out in stores and generally readily available at retail for anyone who wants to get one.
This was not unexpected. The PS5 launched in late 2020 during the pandemic with people shut inside, and supply chain shortages limiting the amount of stock along with several titles available and a decent price point.
That’s not the case in 2024 for the Pro which launched with a considerably higher price point, only mild graphical improvement, amidst a cost of living crisis, and lacking new AAA single-player exclusive titles.
One thing that has carried over from the base PS5 launch though is scalpers – vulturous online resellers who bought up a bunch of stock when the title launched in an effort to make a profit by marking up the prices and selling them onwards.
However, because of the console’s easy availability it seems numerous scalpers and sellers are being forced to list their stock for the same, or less than, the retail price they paid for it in order to clear it according to Tech Spot.
A few are listing the console at over-inflated prices, but many on UK and Japan eBay listings are coming in at under retail. Some of them have switched to trying to sell the PS5 Pro’s external disc drive which is sold separately and is in high demand.
The PS5 Pro is available in retail stores for $699 U.S. dollars.
