Disney’s D23 Brazil convention is underway with its animation and non-Marvel/Lucasfilm live-action department putting on a panel today offering updates on several projects.
First up, they have released a new photo from the “Lilo & Stitch” live-action remake which offers a good look at the CG Stitch set to be used in the film
The title, originally planned for a Disney+ launch, will instead hit U.S. cinemas on May 23rd 2025 – opening alongside the next “Mission: Impossible”.
Next, they confirmed that Shakira will return as Gazelle in “Zootopia 2” which opens next Thanksgiving. The singer confirmed her involvement in a video posted to X. Shakira also contributed an original song titled “Try Everything” written by Sia and Stargate.
The sequel to the global phenomenon sees detectives Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde (Ginnifer Goodwin, Jason Bateman) on the twisting trail of a mysterious reptile who turns the mammal metropolis upside down. Also starring are Ke Huy Quan and Fortune Feimster.
Also shown were new trailers for the live-action “Snow White,” animated sci-fi film “Elio,” and animated comedy “Hoppers”. Also the entire first episode of “Inside Out” spin-off “Dream Productions,” and a sneak peek at “Win or Lose”. All were for the room only and not put online.
“TRON: Ares” had a big first look for the room as Jared Leto, Jeff Bridges, Greta Lee and Evan Peters showed up to promote the film. In the trailer, the computer world’s light cycles are seen speeding through city streets and slicing cars in half.
Lee’s role in the film was revealed as a programmer whose work leads to Jared Leto’s Ares coming to our world. Also revealed is Jodie Turner-Smith’s role as Athena – a program seemingly very upset after Ares abandons his mission.
The clip shown off at the presentation has leaked online on social media and confirm that the heavily turquoise color aesthetic of “TRON: Legacy” has been switched out for something much more crimson here.
Cameron Monaghan, Hasan Minhaj, Sarah Desjardins and the one and only Gillian Anderson co-star in the film which opens October next year.
D23 continues through the weekend with the big Marvel presentation happening just before midday US-ET tomorrow.
