By Veteran actor Tony Todd has died. The actor passed away on November 6th at his home in Los Angeles. He was 69.
With his deep growling voice, Todd first broke through as the heroin-addicted Sgt. Warren in Oliver Stone’s Oscar winner “Platoon”.
From that point, the actor never stopped working, churning out over 240 film and TV credits every year right up until his passing.
He came to global attention in 1990 playing the killer in Candyman, its two sequels and the 2021 reboot of the property.
He was also tied to the “Final Destination” franchise playing coroner William Bludworth and voicing another character actross five of the films including a sixth one opening next year which will mark his final big screen work.
Other notable film credits include “Night of the Living Dead,” “The Crow,” “The Rock,” “Lean on Me,” “Wishmaster,” “Hatchet,” and voicing the Fallen in the second “Transformers” film.
On TV he was a “Star Trek” recurring player – first as Lt. Worf’s brother Kurn in “Star Trek: The Next Generation,” then guesting as a Hirogen general on “Star Trek: Voyager,” and as an adult version of Jake Sisko in “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine”.
His work in that DS9 episode (“The Visitor”) turned it into one of the most acclaimed episodes of “Star Trek” ever put to television and landed high profile genre awards nominations.
He also guest starred or recurred on so many series including “24,” “Xena: Warrior Princess,” “The X-Files,” “Murder, She Wrote,” “Law & Order,” “Stargate: SG-1,” “Night Stalker,” “MacGyver,” “Boston Legal,” “Dead of Summer,” “Night Court,” “21 Jump Street,” “Beverly Hills, 90210,” “NYPD Blue,” “Smallville,” “Angel,” “Charmed,” “CSI: Miami,” “Homicide: Life on the Street,” “Chuck,” “Psych,” “Hawaii Five-0,” “Riverdale,” “Orville,” and “The Young and the Restless”.
His voice work can be heard as the second season villain Zoom on The CW’s “The Flash,” Scare Glow in Netflix’s “Masters of the Universe: Revelation,” and on numerous video games including “Call of Duty: Black Ops II,” “Dota 2,” “Back 4 Blood” and recently Venom in “Marvel’s Spider-Man 2” and a role in next month’s “Indiana Jones and the Great Circle”.
