The biggest news of the week came yesterday when it was announced that “Dark Phoenix” writer/director and “Star Wars: Rebels” co-creator Simon Kinberg was set to pen a new trilogy of “Star Wars” movies.
Kinberg will also produce the films alongside Kathleen Kennedy. Beyond that however there seems to be mixed signals in regards to what they’re about.
One of the trade papers suggest this will be “Episodes 10-12 of The Skywalker Saga” whereas others say is “not meant to be a continuation” and will instead begin a new saga with all new characters.
Adding to the bonfire today is a report at The InSneider which indicates Daisy Ridley will reprise her role as Rey Skywalker in the new movies.
They indicate she will be “positioned as the Obi-Wan of the new trilogy.” It’s not clear if this is a direct continuation of the Skywalker Saga, but Sneider says he’s “willing to bet that these three films will be positioned as Episodes X, XI, and XII”.
If true, is also brings into question the status of Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy’s “Star Wars” movie which was previously announced and has been dubbed ‘New Jedi Order’ which was supposed to be set 15 years after “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” and has Rey rebuilding the Jedi,
Steven Knight had been tapped to write that film but famously dropped out of the project last month and it was not clear what was happening with it.
