Ridley Scott and his “Gladiator II” star Paul Mescal are set to reunite for the thriller “The Dog Stars” at 20th Century Studios.
Mescal is in advanced talks to star in the project which is the sci-fi one that Scott was hinting at the other day during press for the “Gladiator” sequel.
“The Dog Stars” is based on the Peter Heller 2012 apocalyptic thriller that “The Revenant,” “Twisters” and “The Midnight Sky” scribe Mark L. Smith is adapting.
The story unfolds in a near future where an unnamed pandemic has decimated American society. A civilian pilot lives a lonely life on an abandoned Colorado airbase with his dog and a tough ex-marine.
The two men, though mismatched, depend on each other to fend off roaming invaders. And when a random transmission beams through the radio of the pilot’s 1956 Cessna, the hope of a better life opens up and the pilot follows its static-broken trail.
The film is expected to shoot in 2025 once Scott completes work on his Bee Gees movie at Paramount Pictures. Smith, Cliff Roberts and Scott Free are producing.
