Yesterday a report dropped via the Marvel Vision podcast which claimed Barry Keoghan is in talks to return as The Joker – a role he cameoed as in Matt Reeves’ “The Batman” film.
The indication was he would headline a “The Penguin”-esque Max TV series centered on his character before going on to serve as the main villain in trilogy capper “The Batman Part III”.
Today, just minutes ago, DC Studios chief James Gunn shot down the report. In a posting on Threads, he says:
“Turn on Threads and everyone is asking me about this. No there is absolutely no truth to this. A Joker series is not being discussed nor has even come up at this time. Sorry.”
He goes on to say don’t attack the outlet, saying they’re “just one of many many places reporting this”.
Reeves finished the script for “The Batman: Part II” in September with that film expected to shoot early 2025 for a late 2026 release.
He confirmed earlier this Fall the plan is for a trilogy of films and hopes to get further character-centric TV spin-offs out there.
