Three years ago came reports that Amazon was in negotiations to develop a TV series based on the acclaimed sci-fi “Mass Effect” video game franchise.
Today it’s finally official, a live-action “Mass Effect” TV series is in development at Amazon MGM Studios with Daniel Casey (“F9: The Fast Saga,” “Kin”) coming onboard to write and executive produce the show.
Karim Zreik, Ari Arad and Michael Gamble also executive produce.
First released over a decade ago, the original “Mass Effect” trilogy contains one of the most well established, diverse and cinematic space opera screen universes outside of the “Star Wars” and “Star Trek” franchises.
In the games, you play as Commander Shepherd who must assemble a crew of various aliens and humans to take on the return of an ancient threat to all life in the galaxy in the 22nd century. Four games in total have been made with a fifth currently in development.
Previous attempts to develop the franchise as a feature film have failed. Exact plot details of the new TV series are being kept under wraps.
