Even before the series was over, fans have been pushing for a “Star Trek: Picard” spin-off. As the third and final season aired to great acclaim, heat gathered behind a concept dubbed “Star Trek: Legacy”.
That concept would’ve seen Jeri Ryan’s Seven-of-Nine captaining the Enterprise-G along with several other returnees. However, as time progressed the chances of the series fell apart as no development work seem to take place.
Once showrunner Terry Matalas opted to take over the “Vision Quest” series at Marvel Studios, it all appeared to be over. Now, in a surprising reveal, Ryan says that a different “Star Trek” series pitched to her post-Picard.
Appearing at Spacecon in San Antonio, Texas this past weekend, several cast members of “Star Trek: Voyager” and “Star Trek: Picard” attended with Ryan as a headline guest. One question was if there was any future for her character to have her own show. She says:
“There has been talk. And there was an idea that was actually pitched to me after Picard ended, which was not the ‘Legacy’ show that I know the fans are asking for, that I want to do.
But it just wasn’t me… It didn’t feel like the right kind of thing… But there has been talk. And if there is one thing I have learned with this franchise it is: never say never. You never know.”
Paramount+ has seemingly stuck with their original plan to make “Star Trek: Starfleet Academy” their next series with two seasons of that guaranteed and a first season currently in production.
“Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” also has at least two more seasons coming.
