Netflix’s shark blockbuster “Under Paris” is reportedly receiving a sequel following its strong launch this Summer.
Xavier Gens directed the film which starred Bérénice Bejo as a grieving marine biologist who is forced to face her tragic past in order to save Paris from a bloodbath when a giant shark appears in the Seine just as a major triathlon is getting underway.
Made for $21 million, the film received mixed/positive reviews and viewed more than 41 million times in its first five days – easily topping the Netflix top ten chart across 93 countries and the best launch ever on the service for a non-English language film. It pulled in over 84 million views by the end of its first month.
Bejo recently spoke with La Tribune (via Coming Soon) where she revealed that she will shoot the “Under Paris” sequel starting in September next year.
She adds: “It will not be a simple sequel. It is another film, very different…but still, with a shark.” Despite Bejo’s confirmation, Netflix has yet to officially announce the sequel.
Back in June, Gens said of a sequel that there was “a chance that we’ll be discussing it soon”.
