Ridley Scott is famous for some iconic director’s cuts which have changed some of his films from misfires to masterpieces (eg. “Kingdom of Heaven”) and others which had little impact (eg. “Napoleon”).

With his “Gladiator II” hitting cinemas shortly, the question has to be asked – will there be a Scott director’s cut down the road on this one?

No according to Scott. The filmmaker, in an interview with Collider, says the new film won’t receive any additional scenes beyond the theatrical one. Asked straight up if the film has a director’s cut, he responded:

“No. I’ve earned the right to have my final cut. I have the final cut anyway, so my cut that goes out usually is my fault. It is my cut. I’ll go around in circles. I won’t agonize because I cut during the film.

I don’t get to the end and then start the cut – God knows that would take too long. I cut as I’m going, and I think it’s valid to cut as you’re going because you need to see how you’re doing and how everyone’s performing.”

The $300 million+ budgeted feature is headed for a $65 million domestic opening and, along with “Wicked” and “Moana 2,” are expected to turn Thanksgiving into a big one for cinemas.

Paul Mescal stars in the film as the adult version of Lucius who resides peacefully with his family in Numidia until Roman soldiers, led by General Marcus Acacius (Pedro Pascal) invade and force him into slavery.

Inspired by the legendary Maximus, Lucius decides to fight as a gladiator and oppose the rule of the young emperors, Geta (Joseph Quinn) and Caracalla (Fred Hechinger). Denzel Washington plays grudge-holding former gladiator who pulls the strings behind the scenes for his own purposes.

Djimon Hounsou, Matt Lucas, Lior Raz, Peter Mensah, May Calamawy, Tim McInnerny and Derek Jacobi co-star in the film which is set to open in cinemas internationally from November 15th and in U.S. cinemas on November 22nd.
