Eddie Murphy will re-team with his “Dreamgirls” director Bill Condon in an untitled biopic about musician George Clinton at Amazom MGM Studios.
The project is based on George Clinton’s memoir “Brothas Be, Yo Like George, Ain’t That Funkin’ Kinda Hard On You?”. It’ll follow the influential pioneer of funk and his tumultuous journey to founding musical collective Parliament-Funkadelic.
Blending psychedelia, wild outfits and surrealist humor, the group achieved thirteen top ten hits in the American R&B music charts between 1967 and 1983 – including six number ones.
It had an influential effect on subsequent funk, post-punk, hip-hop, and techno artists in the 1980s and 1990s along with helpoing pioneer Afrofuturism.
Virgil Williams is penning the script from an original draft by Max Werner while Murphy, John Davis, Catherine Davis, and Greg Yolen will produce.
Condon is currently in post-production on the film adaptation of the Tony-winning Broadway musical “Kiss of the Spider Woman” starring Jennifer Lopez and Diego Luna. Murphy will next be seen in “The Pickup” alongside Keke Palmer and Pete Davidson.
