By “Mortal Kombat” director and “Resident Evil” franchise steerer Paul W.S. Anderson will write and direct a new film take on SEGA franchise “The House of the Dead”.
Anderson, Jeremy Bolt, Toru Nakahara, Dmitri M. Johnson, Mike Goldberg and Dan Jevons will produce.
Debuting in 1996, the fast-paced ‘on-rails shooter’ game gave its undead zombie antagonists the ability to run – long before films like Danny Boyle’s “28 Days Later” and Zack Snyder’s “Dawn of the Dead” remake made it popular.
Players take on the role of government AMS agents tasked with thwarting the conspiracies of organisations that threaten the world. The title refers to the bureau they work for as life expectancy of agents is short.
The film will be based on the third game which revolves around a woman trying to rescue her father, and the son of the man who caused the outbreak.
It unfolds at an abandoned research facility where the creatures were hatched and took over. Some have technology embedded in human mutated flesh and all are smart – trying to trick and trap any who enter the asylum.
The property was previously adapted for the screen in 2003 with Uwe Boll directing the low-budget feature which he called a prequel to the original 1996 game. It was universally panned by critics.
