The Lego Group, under its deal with Universal Pictures, has announced plans for four live-action movies with three of them to helmed by directors Jake Kasdan (“Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle”), Patty Jenkins (“Wonder Woman”) and Joe Cornish (“Attack the Block”).
Plot specifics of all the films are under wraps, while Jill Wilfert and Ryan Christians from The Lego Group are producing all four projects.
Kasdan will direct his film from a script by Andrew Mogel and Jarrad Paul based on an original idea and previous draft by Matt Mider and Kevin Burrows. Kasdan and Melvin Mar will produce.
Jenkins will direct from a script she wrote with former DC Entertainment President Geoff Johns. Jenkins is producing.
Cornish is rewriting from a draft by “Rick & Morty” writer Heather Anne Campbell which itself was based on treatment by Simon Rich (“Miracle Workers”).
The fourth project will be a live-action “LEGO Ninjago” film with brothers Kevin and Dan Hageman, who most recently served as showrunners on the acclaimed “Star Trek: Prodigy” animated series, penning the script. No word on a director as yet.
Universal’s specialty studio Focus Features recently released the Pharrell William’s biopic “Piece by Piece” that was told fully through LEGO animation.
