After being way off the scene for a while, Armie Hammer is back. Hammer was very much through his breakthrough phase, playing the Winklevoss twins in David Fincher’s The Social Network was followed by roles ranging from Death On The Nile, The Man From U.N.C.L.E, Cars 3, and Free Fire to widely acclaimed work like Call Me By Your Name.
Then it all came to a screeching halt three years ago. In 2021 some weirdly sexual text messages were leaked that were alleged to be from Hammer to a woman. Shortly after this, there were multiple allegations of sexual misconduct.
Hammer denied the allegations but was effectively forced to quit Hollywood as his agent and publicist dropped him, and he was fired from several projects. The accusations were investigated by the LAPD, but no charges were filed. This led to questions about the legitimacy of ending somebody’s current career over unproven allegations.
The actor already launched a podcast on Monday titled The Armie HammerTime Podcast. The first episode includes an interview with Tom Arnold. Now, according to a report in Indiewire, he has a new film project locked down.
The indie period western drama Frontier Crucible is his first acting job in more than three years, and it tells the story of an ex-soldier reluctantly teaming up with a trio of outlaws, a woman, and her injured spouse as they navigate the perilous Arizona frontier in the 1870s. Together, they battle the harsh elements and hostile forces in a desperate bid for survival.
Shooting gets underway next month in Monument Valley and Prescott, Arizona. Thomas Jane will co-star, with Myles Clohessy, Zane Holtz, Mary Stickley, Jonah Kagen, Eli Brown, and Eddie Spears. Hammer and Jane will reportedly play two of the outlaws.
It is produced by Dallas Sonnier, and directed by Travis Mills.
