Tomb Raider is one of those things that completely exposes Hollywood idiocy. It should be one of the simplest things in the entire world to get right. If you can’t create a rollicking rollercoaster of an adventure from the character of Lara Croft and those games, then you must be some kind of dribbling imbecile… right?
At the time, the first Angelina Jolie movie was judged as average. The harsh judge that is 20/20 hindsight, through the lens of the current awful state of modern entertainment, shows it as still the best adaption of the character. Look:
It’s not difficult, is it? Modern, high-tech Indiana Jones with a sexy female lead. How can they keep getting that wrong?
They are having another go, and this time Emmy-winning Fleabag and Killing Eve creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge is in the driving seat. She is said to have been a big fan of the games growing up and this has been a long-time passion project for her.
The actresses making the final cut for the role of Lara Croft in her adaption have been revealed. They are Emma Corrin (Deadpool & Wolverine), Mackenzie Davis (Speak No Evil), Sophie Turner (Game Of Thrones) and Lucy Boynton (Bohemian Rhapsody).

Deadline broke the news that screen testing is due to happen, but cannot confirm if all four will be testing for the final decision.
Filming on the series is set for early 2025 and Waller-Bridge is writing the scripts as we write this. The plan is for an “epic and globe-trotting” adventure. It will be wholly separate from the current animated adaption.
Alicia Vikander recently played the role in a big-screen Tomb Raider adaption from 2018 that starred Dominic West, Walton Goggins, Daniel Wu, and Kristin Scott Thomas in the supporting cast.
