Idris Elba is set to star in and produce the action feature “Hammer Down” that marks the directorial debut of Marvel Studios and DC film producer Simon Hatt.
The film will be a feature expansion of a short film by the same name which starred Chris Sullivan (“This Is Us”) and Abigail Dylan Harrison (“The Affair”).
Elba will star as Mac, a widowed truck driver who goes by the handle Hammer Down and is not unlike Jason Statham’s Transporter – having a ‘no questions asked’ policy about the goods he transports cross-country.
On one trip he takes his tenacious teenage daughter along for a job and soon they are tracked and attacked by a relentless group of criminals that will stop at nothing to secure the consignment he has been entrusted to deliver.
Pursued by both criminals and the police, Mac and his daughter must work together to prevent the cargo falling into dangerous hands and survive to live another day.
Veteran producer Charles Roven and Madison Weireter will produce the film via their Atlas Entertainment label with the title to be offered at next week’s American Film Market.
Elba is coming off work in Apple series “Hijack” which is getting a second season, and the upcoming third “Sonic the Hedgehog” film. He’s currently working on Kathryn Bigelow’s next film.
