“Blow,” “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” and “Murder on the Orient Express” stars Johnny Depp and Penélope Cruz will re-team for a fourth time in “Day Drinker” at Lionsgate.
The story follows a cruise ship bartender who meets a mysterious day drinker – only for both of them to find themselves entangled in a criminal underbelly, and connected in unexpected ways.
The project will be directed by Marc Webb (“The Amazing Spider-Man,” “500 Days of Summer”) and produced by Basil Iwanyk, Adam Kolbrenner, Zach Dean and Erica Lee. Dean (“The Tomorrow War,” “Fast X”) also penned the screenplay.
Commenting on the announcement, Lionsgate chairman Adam Fogelson says: “Day Drinker combines a highly commercial concept with wildly outrageous twists and turns all set in an incredible world, and there is no better filmmaker than Marc or two more perfectly cast actors than Johnny and Penélope to bring that world to life.”
Lionsgate will present the Thunder Road / IN.2 production in association with 30WEST. Lionsgate and 30WEST recently teamed on the Paul Rudd and Nick Jonas-led film “Power Ballad” from filmmaker John Carney.
