When James Gunn and Peter Safran announced that their new DC Universe would kick off with an animated entry, eyebrows were raised. Creature Commandos seemed like an odd choice to start the whole thing with. However, it is now likely that they could be the key to unlocking the whole thing somehow.
Now, the full trailer has been released. This will follow the events of season one of Peacemaker. Viola Davis reprises her DCEU role of Amanda Waller. Here she has been restricted by Congress from using human operatives in her operations after the events of Suicide Squad (x2) and Peacemaker.
To get around this, she assembles a squad of creatures not regarded as human – the Creature Commandos.
In the team are Zoe Chao as Nina Mazursky, Alan Tudyk as Dr. Phosphorus, David Harbour as Eric Frankenstein, Indira Varma as The Bride, Sean Gunn as both G.I. Robot and Weasel, and Maria Bakalova as the new character Princess Ilana Rostovic.
Steve Agee returns from Peacemaker to provide the voice of John Economos, while Frank Grillo joins as Rick Flag Sr.
So begins the DC Universe’s first phase: Chapter One: Gods and Monsters. Superman will follow, as will Supergirl. Gunn teased that a trailer for Superman is on the way, and that Milly Alcock is going to blow everyone away as Supergirl.
He also confirmed that Rick Flag Sr will play a role in live-action as well, and appears in Superman.
The series confirmed its launch date on Max – December 5th.
