Filmmakers Joe and Anthony Russo have revealed that filming on “Avengers: Doomsday” will kick off in Spring 2025 ahead of a planned May 1st 2026 release.
The Russos confirmed the production and release windows in an interview with Collider at New York Comic Con, the project marking their first time returning to direct a Marvel film since 2019’s “Avengers: Endgame”.
Not a lot is known about “Avengers: Doomsday” or its follow-up, “Avengers: Secret Wars” which is due a year later on May 2027, but Stephen McFeely and Michael Waldron will co-write the films.
We do know Robert Downey Jr. will be playing the antagonist Doctor Doom in the film and recently reports have suggested ‘Doomsday’ will have more of a focus on him with Downey spending several months filming scenes whereas the various heroes will come and go with shorter several week periods of filming each.
Those heroes are expected to be a mix and include The Fantastic Four cast and Tom Holland’s Spider-Man along with plenty of returning favorites and some of the newer Phase 4 heroes who’ve yet to appear in an “Avengers” film.
Marvel has multiple works to release before then including “Captain America: Brave New World,” “Thunderbolts*,” “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” and “Blade” on the big screen and the likes of “Daredevil: Born Again,” “Iron Heart” and “Wonder Man” on the Disney+ service.
