Even though the first season is still very much in the midst of filming, Paramount+ has handed out a second season renewal order for the upcoming “Star Trek: Starfleet Academy” series.
Announced at New York Comic Con during the Star Trek universe panel, the first season is currently in production in Toronto and the panel also revealed that “Orphan Black” and “She-Hulk: Attorney-at-Law” star Tatiana Maslany is set to have a recurring role in the first season.
Robert Picardo, who played The Doctor on “Star Trek: Voyager,” made an unexpected appearance during the panel where he introduced a surprise livestream from the set.
The series will follow a young group of cadets as they come of age in one of the most legendary places in the galaxy. Under the watchful and demanding eyes of their instructors, they will discover what it takes to become Starfleet officers as they navigate blossoming friendships, explosive rivalries, first loves and a new enemy that threatens both the Academy and the Federation itself.
Holly Hunter and Paul Giamatti lead the cast as the school’s chancellor and the first season’s villain with younger cast members including Sandro Rosta, Kerrice Brooks, Bella Shepard, George Hawkins, Karim Diané and Zoë Steiner.
Hailing from executive producer and co-showrunner Alex Kurtzman, the series will launch in 2025.
