David Corenswet is reportedly in negotiations to star in the inspiring true story film “Mr. Irrelevant” for Skydance Sports. The project will be his first post-“Superman” film.
The story follows John Tuggle, who was given the title after being the last pick of the last round of the 1983 NFL draft.
He became the first player in league history picked last in the draft to make the NFL on the team that drafted him. He died just a few years later from cancer, leaving behind an enduring impact on his team and teammates.
Jonathan Levine is directing while Emmy-nominated writer and “Reacher” showrunner Nick Santora is penning the script. Gillian Bohrer will produce with Santora and Levine.
Corenswet, who starred in “Twisters,” “The Greatest Hits” and mini-series “Lady in the Lake” earlier this year, beat out a number of actors to lead James Gunn’s “Superman” which recently wrapped production.
Corenswet had been eyeing several scripts before ultimately choosing this pic following a meeting with Levine.
