The TV spots for “Venom: The Last Dance” have been teasing the arrival of Knull, God of the Symbiotes, in this third and final outing for Tom Hardy’s Eddie Brock/Venom.
That said, the character’s face has remained under wraps and all indications are he’s not the main villain – more a secondary one pulling strings from afar ala Thanos in the first “Avengers” film.
Out promoting the film this week, director and co-writer Kelly Marcel says there are no plans for Knull to just be a one-and-done villain.
Speaking to IGN, Marcel says she’s fully aware how important the character Knull is to Venom and promises this is “just the beginning” for him:
“We were always aware of Knull, but knew that we needed to lay the foundation of the Venom character, and his relationship with Eddie, before introducing him. This is just the beginning for Knull.
We’re in spoiler territory now and we hope some of the fun of watching this movie is not knowing what will happen, but trust me, we know full well how important Knull is to the fans, so just as we laid a foundation for Venom, we hope we are doing the same for Knull.
The King in Black is way too powerful for ‘one and done.’… it just touches the beginnings of his story. Marvel’s greatest film villains are developed over time.”
Chiwetel Ejiofor, Juno Temple, Rhys Ifans, Peggy Lu, Alanna Ubach, and Stephen Graham co-star with Hardy in the film which marks the feature directorial debut of Marcel who wrote screenplays for the first two films.
“Venom: The Last Dance” is set to release in theaters on October 25th 2024.
