The weekend numbers are coming in, and it is not good news for Joker: Folie a Deux. At number one this weekend is the tiny budgeted horror gore-fest Terrifier 3. A budget of just $2 million and it has pulled in $18.3 million in the US alone.

Meanwhile, the Joker sequel doesn’t even make second place. That went to The Wild Robot with $15.3 million domestic. It also grabbed another $24.1 million overseas and is yet to open in quite a few markets so looks to have legs. It has already taken $148 million total.

So where does this all leave Joker 2? Third place with just $7.1 million in its second weekend. The rest of the numbers will make grim reading for the studio, sitting on a $200 million budget. The decline is 82% from opening weekend. That opening weekend was considered a disaster. The fall is bigger than The Marvels (78%) and The Flash (73%).

Overseas, the drop was 72%, so it is stalling there as well. It is looking potentially unlikely to break even at this point. Considering the movie was called a “Folie,” you can’t help but think it is fulfilling its own prophecy. An R-rated telling of the backstory of one of the greatest comic book villains of all time? Everyone floods out for it, propelling the original to over $1 billion. But that only works once.

Elsewhere, Saturday Night didn’t make the expected splash, and Donald Trump biopic The Apprentice didn’t even hit the top ten rundown.

Box office remains subdued. If you want to feel really old, then you can enjoy the 35th-anniversary re-release of Back To The Future Part II later this week.
