Back in November last year came the news that “All Quiet on the Western Front” director Edward Berger was in negotiations to develop and direct a sixth film in the Jason Bourne franchise at Universal Pictures.
With Berger having finished his work on “Conclave,” which screened to great reception on the Fall film festival circuit, it looks like he may be moving forward with it.
A new Production Weekly industry listing indicates that Berger has allegedly signed on to write and direct the film which is currently going by the title “The Bourne Dilemma”.
No other details on story or cast are available, and it’s not clear if Matt Damon will reprise one of his most iconic roles for this which aims to breathe some new life into the franchise.
The original trilogy – Doug Liman’s “The Bourne Identity” and Paul Greengrass’ “The Bourne Supremacy” and “The Bourne Ultimatum” – are still held up as a benchmark of a quality action trilogy.
The more recent last two entries – the Jeremy Renner-led “The Bourne Legacy” and the Damon returns vehicle “Jason Bourne” – proved a disappointment, as did the spin-off TV series “Treadstone”.
