Warner Bros. Pictures is reportedly set to give Clint Eastwood’s new film “Juror #2” only a rather limited theatrical run.
Empire City (via World of Reel) broke the news, saying the title will hit less than 50 theaters with “no marketing support” on November 1st.
In addition, they claim there is no planned wide expansion rollout for the film. The trailer was released the other week to a very positive reception and early reaction from those who’ve seen it have had a similarly strong response.
The news comes after Eastwood’s box-office flop “Cry Macho” was targeted by WB CEO David Zaslav in a leaked conference call to the NY Post back in May, the Warners chief saying “we don’t owe anyone any favors”.
The comments came despite Eastwood’s decades-long track record at Warners and his being famously known for delivering on time and on (or under) budget.
Nicholas Hoult stars in the film as a man who hit something when he was driving home late at night, but not seeing anything in the near vicinity after he stopped and looked around.
After getting selected to sit on jury duty for a murder case, however, he realizes that what he thought was a deer may have actually been the victim. That puts him in a difficult position – can he influence the jury to acquit the innocent defendant without implicating himself in the process?
Toni Collette, Zoey Deutch, Kiefer Sutherland, Gabriel Basso, Leslie Bibb, Chris Messina, J. K. Simmons, Amy Aquino, Adrienne C. Moore, Cedric Yarbrough, and Francesca Eastwood co-star.
“Juror #2” will have its world premiere at AFI Fest on October 27th before that limited release on November 1st.
