As previously indicated, the upcoming Marvel Studios feature “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” will take place in an alternate reality – not the Earth-616 of the main MCU.
In doing so, filmmaker Matt Shakman is setting the action with an aesthetic akin to 1950s/1960s interpretations of the future in a homage to the early comics.
Though they’ll eventually end up on Earth-616 and interact with other heroes, possibly in this film, it does beg the question – will there be other Marvel cameos and heroes that will show up as part of the F4’s Earth in this film.
Turns out there won’t be any. A resurfaced interview with Shakman from earlier this year has emerged over at MSN (via CBM) with the director confirming that the team are the only superheroes in their world: “The great thing about this is we’re building a new universe where there are no other heroes. It’s the Fantastic Four.”
Shakman explained earlier this year that the film won’t serve as another origin story, either. When we meet the characters, they will already be the F4 team.
Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn and Ebon Moss-Bachrach play the F4 in this version alonside Ralph Ineson as Galactus, Julia Garner as Shalla-Bal/Silver Surfer, and Paul Walter Hauser, John Malkovich, and Natasha Lyonne in other roles.
“The Fantastic Four: First Steps” is set to be released in theaters on July 25th 2025.
