Mary Elizabeth Winstead has reportedly entered negotiations to star alongside Maika Monroe in the new take on 1992 thriller “The Hand That Rocks the Cradle” at 20th Century Studios.
The original Curtis Hanson-directed film starred Rebecca De Mornay as Peyton, a woman getting revenge on a new mother (Annabella Sciorra) whose testimony led to her sex-offender husband’s suicide and Peyton to miscarry.
She infiltrates the woman’s family as the new nanny for their daughter (Madeline Zima) in an effort to take the kid and husband (Matt McCoy) for herself – seducing him and killing anyone who might expose the truth about her motives. Julianne Moore and Ernie Hudson co-starred.
Monroe will take on the crazed nanny role, with Winstead taking on the mother/wife role. The third key role of the husband has yet to be cast.
Michelle Garza Cervera (“Huesera”) will direct the new version from a script by Micah Bloomberg (“Homecoming”). Ted Field, Michael Schaefer and Mike Larocca produce.
Winstead is coming off her role in the Disney+ series “Ahsoka” and the Showtime limited series “A Gentleman in Moscow”.
