“Prey” star Amber Midthunder has joined the cast of the second season of the Monsterverse spin-off series “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” on the Apple TV+ service.
Midthunder will reportedly have a heavily recurring role as Isabel, an “intelligent and powerful businesswoman”. She marks the first real new piece of casting announced for the show’s sophomore run.
Confirmed returnees so far include Anna Sawai as Cate Randa, Ren Watabe as Kentaro, Kiersey Clemons as May, Takehiro Hira as Hiroshi, Joe Tippett as Tim, and Dominique Tipper as Apex operative Brenda Holland.
The series was renewed for a second season in April this year following a good reviews and a highly successful run from November-January. Kurt Russell and Wyatt Russell were key players in the season, as were actors Mari Yamamoto and Christopher Heyerdahl though it’s seems unlikely they will return bar Yamamoto.
After the first season was focused on Godzilla, the second season is expected to refocus on the MonsterVerse’s other titanic figure Kong, as was teased in the show’s first season finale. It’s not clear how the new lore introduced in “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” will impact it.
“Monarch was co-created by Chris Black and Matt Fraction, who also serve as executive producers and showrunners on the series. Joby Harold, Tory Tunnell, Matt Shakman, Andrew Colville, Jen Roskind, Hiro Matsuoka and Takemasa Arita executive produce.
