Netflix has released the full trailer for the second season of its acclaimed Keri Russell-led political drama/thriller “The Diplomat” which is back on October 31st.
The new season will deal with the revelations of the first season finale when a London car bomb nearly kills the husband (Rufus Sewell) of U.S. Ambassador to the U.K. Kate Wyler (Russell).
She faces the ultimate test as her suspicions as to the masterminds behind the bombing, an attack on a British aircraft carrier. and a brewing UK-Russia war, all reach to the highest levels of the British government.
Oscar winner Allison Janney joins the cast of the new season as U.S. Vice President Grace Penn. Also back are David Gyasi’s foreign secretary Austin Dennison along with Ali Ahn, Rory Kinnear, Ato Essandoh, Celia Imrie, Michael McKean, Nana Mensah, T’Nia Miller, and Miguel Sandoval.
The series is created and executive produced by Debora Cahn, who is also serving as the showrunner. Russell, Janice Williams, and Simon Cellan Jones also executive produce.
The first season shot to No. 1 on the streamer’s consumer-facing Top 10 list when it debuted, with 57.48 million hours viewed in its first weekend.
