Earlier this year, Ewan McGregor said he’s up for more appearances as Jedi Knight Obi-Wan Kenobi following his reprising his role from the prequel trilogy in the “Obi-Wan Kenobi” mini-series in 2022.
That series took place halfway approximately nine years before the events of the original “Star Wars” movie which leaves plenty of time for McGregor’s character to have interactions on (and off) Tatooine.
In April, McGregor said “there’s been no phone call to me from Lucasfilm or Disney saying, ‘Let’s do another one” before re-iterating it was designed as a limited series.. That said, he added: “I’m sure we will [do more]”.
Cut to this weekend and McGregor appeared at L.A. Comic-Con, participatinig in a Q&A with fans and reported confirmed the studio is currently “exploring” ideas for a follow-up.
The actor is reportedly said to have revealed his desire to wear Obi-Wan’s Clone Wars armour and to reunite with Hayden Christensen. The crowd, understandably, went wild.
McGregor scored acclaim for his return to the role, even as the reaction to the series itself was a bit a more mixed – albeit still mostly positive.
Time is on their side – McGregor is currently 53, around nine years younger than Alec Guinness was when he shot the original “Star Wars”.
The news comes as “Star Wars” on Disney+ is rumored to be scaling back to one live-action series a year with the second and final season of “Andor” expected to be that title in 2025 and the second season of “Ahsoka” likely to be it in 2026. There is also a “Lando” project in development so it’s not clear when it might go forward.
