Part of the reason why the DCEU was such an unholy clusterfuck, especially when compared to what was (at the time) the smooth machine of the MCU, was because of tinkering.

Warner Bros. are well known for their top down interference. They derailed Man Of Steel 2, insisted on a Batman team up and then the Justice League to chase some of that sweet Avengers money.

Then they went into a frenzy of badly planned panic when it all started to go wrong, and the DCEU fell apart.

The plan was for James Gunn and Peter Safran to start again with a blank sheet of paper, but Warner Bros. gonna Warner Bros.

James Gunn

They have looked at the over 4:1 box office return of The Batman, and the critical plaudits being showered on The Penguin, and seem to be pushing for more of that.

Warner chief David Zaslav has apparently decreed that the studio wants and needs more Batman, and right now.

According to a new report at The Insneider, he sees the DCU version of Batman as key to pushing the DCU forward and competing with Marvel.

Batman is supposed to come to the DCU in the form of The Brave and the Bold. However, and here is the kicker, apparently he has floated the idea of Robert Pattinson becoming the DCU version of Batman.

The Penguin and The Batman Part II would play out and then segue into the DCU, instead of remaining as a DC Elseworlds universe.

So how would the dark, gritty, adult version of Matt Reeves’ Gotham City fit into Gunn’s seemingly lighter, more fantastical DCU of Superman and the Creature Commandos?

Would Pattinson want to commit over a decade to the role?

Andy Muschietti was announced as director of The Brave and the Bold to much fanfare, but then The Flash cratered.

Warner Bros. Is known to be reactive. Could that be triggering their push for a change of tack?
