Ridley Scott is set to produce a limited series adaptation of the book “A Day of Fire: A Novel of Pompeii” currently in development at Amazon MGM Studios.
The book covers the lead up to the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79AD, an event which utterly destroyed the Italian city and killed many of its residents.
The story deals with a series of overlapping stories of people living in Pompeii and what their lives were like before the heavens came down on them. The book was penned by a bunch of authors including Kate Quinn, Stephanie Dray, Ben Kane, Eliza Knight, Sophie Perinot, and Vicky Alvear.
“The Tudors” and “Vikings” creator and “Elizabeth” scribe Michael Hirst is set as writer, executive producer and showrunner alongside Horatio Hirst making his TV writing debut.
Ridley Scott, David W. Zucker, Clayton Krueger, and Sharon Hughff executive produce for Scott Free Productions and Amazon MGM Studios.
This will join Scott Free’s impressive upcoming slate which includes “Blade Runner 2099” and “Alien: Earth”.
