Ubisoft launched “Star Wars Outlaws,” dubbed the first-ever open-world “Star Wars” game, just over a month ago to muted positive reviews.
With 87 reviews counted, the game came in at 76/100 on Metacritic which puts it as the 190th best-reviewed game this year – just a tad above “Homeworld 3” and “Multiversus” and just behind “Rise of the Ronin” and “Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed”.
Part of the problem was that the game suffered various issues at launch, which is seen in the reviews that seem to really like some elements but have serious issues with others – namely its various bugs and poor stealth mechanics. Audience scores are reflecting those issues as well.
Recently Ubisoft indicated the game’s sales performance was ‘softer than expected’ and the backlash to the game’s issues is thought to be a key reason why “Assassin’s Creed: Shadows” was delayed three months – so that the company has more time to get that game into fighting shape.
Now a new report at Insider Gaming claims to have secured a current sales figure for ‘Outlaws’ from sources close to the game, saying the title has taken in just over one million sales worldwide after a month.
To give you a comparison, that’s half the amount EA’s “Star Wars Jedi Survivor” did in the same time frame, and less than the 1.7 million “Assassin’s Creed Valhalla” did at launch – though ‘Outlaws’ is admittedly hampered by not being available on Steam until late November.
Ubisoft is determined to improve the game and has already laid out a roadmap of frequent updates ahead of the Steam launch.
