Amazon has officially handed out a series order for its proposed “Reacher” spin-off series at Prime Video.
First teased earlier this month, the show will focus on the character of private investigator Frances Neagley (Maria Sten) and is currently going by the name “The Untitled Neagley Project”.
In the series, Neagley learns that a beloved friend from her past has been killed in a suspicious accident, and she becomes hell bent on justice.
Using everything she’s learned from Jack Reacher and her time as a member of the 110 Special Investigators, Neagley puts herself on a dangerous path to uncover a menacing evil.
The announcement was made at an event on Tuesday in London with Sten in attendance. She confirms to Variety that the series will maintain the tone of the “Reacher” series:
“It’s still ‘Reacher’. It’s still fun, splashy action and quick dialogue but it has something that’s Neagley, not Reacher. It’s the same fun tone but [the writers] make it its own.”
“Reacher” series creator Nick Santora developed the spinoff with “Law & Order” writer Nicholas Wootton, and the two will serve as co-showrunners and executive producers. Amazon MGM Studios, Skydance Television and CBS Studios are backing the series.
A third season of “Reacher” began filming late last year and had to pause partway through due to Ritchinson’s commitment to shoot a film. Production then resumed on the new season which will air in 2025.
