A24 has premiered the first trailer for “Bodies, Bodies, Bodies” filmmaker Halina Reijn’s new erotic thriller “Babygirl” starring Nicole Kidman and Harris Dickinson.
The film explores the complexities of power dynamics and sexuality within a professional setting as a tightly wound and married high-ranking CEO (Kidman) finds a sense of release through an illicit romance with a captivating and significantly younger intern (Dickinson).
As the trailer indicates, there’s playfulness turning into dom-sub elements to this relationship as the pair play around to dangerous extents with the inherent power differential of the torrid relationship.
The film premiered to strong reviews in Venice earlier in the Summer along with a seven-minute standing ovation from viewers. Kidman spoke about her role at a press conference, saying:
“The film is obviously, yes, about sex, it’s about desire, it’s about your inner thoughts, it’s about secrets, it’s about marriage, it’s about truth, power, consent … This is one woman’s story, and I hope a very liberating story.
It’s told by a woman through her gaze … and that’s to me what made it so unique was that suddenly I was going to be in the hands of a woman with this material and it was very deep to share those things and very freeing.”
Antonio Banderas and Sophie Wilde co-star in “Babygirl” which is set to release in cinemas on Christmas Day.
